Raptors Sign Former Indianapolis Colts Safety

Rockford, IL - Rock River Raptors are proud to announce the signing of former Indianapolis Colts safety Jermaine Hampton.

Jermaine Hampton is a 6'2, 215 pound safety from Northern Illinois University. After graduating from Northern Illinois, Hampton was signed by the Indianapols Colts a day after the 2001 NFL draft. After the preseason camp, he was signed to a three year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. During the 2001 season he saw action in 10 games recording eight tackles. In 2002 Hampton hurt his lower back and on August 26th was placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season. After the season was over, Hampton was cut by the Colts for salary cap reasons.

While at Northern Illinois Hampton totaled 302 tackles which ranks him 15th all time on the Huskies Hit List. He tallied 112 Tackles his senior campaign that ranked him 5th in the MAC with fellow teammate Larry Williams. Hampton had 33 appearances and started 29 consecutive games over a span of three years. Hampton recorded 17 double figure tackle games for the Huskies. His career best was against Toledo where he had 17 tackles. Hampton was an All-MAC selection in his junior and senior seasons. Hampton was a top 40 preseason Jim Thorpe Award candidate for the best defensive back in his senior season.

"We are hoping to teach Jermaine the intricacies of the indoor game and to see what we get," Coach Richards said "but we are very pleased to have someone of Jermaine's caliber."
