Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The first week of training camp went pretty smooth for the Tennessee Valley Raptors and the second is also off to a solid start according to coach Dick Adams.

The Raptors are currently rotating practice sites between Calvary Hill and the Southeast YMCA depending on the weather.

"We scrimmaged a bunch over the weekend and we're getting some things done,'' said Adams, whose team opens the 2005 United Indoor Football season March 19 at Evansville. "Our defense has come together, but we're still struggling a little on offense in trying to find a quarterback who knows where the ball is supposed to go.

"But it's getting better and you can see the improvement, especially on the offensive line. We're still looking outside for more players and we'll bring in a few more guys to give us some depth."

Adams cited the play of defensive end Anthony Harris (6-foot-4, 255 pounds, Western New Mexico) and former Alabama A&M linebacker Lionel Macklin (5-10, 225). Defensive backs Henry Freeman – Tennessee Valley's leading tackler last season - and Tyrone Parsons, an All-America performer out of Alcorn State, have also looked sharp Adams added.

"Anthony has surprised me and Macklin has adjusted to playing a little fullback,'' Adams said. " Some of the guys who are new to playing indoor football are learning how to run the shorter routes and get around in a smaller space. We're getting there."

Tennessee Valley opens its home slate April 16 against the Tupelo Fire Ants at the Von Braun Center.

Dick Adams Show set for Wings Sports Grille: Raptors' voice Thom Abraham of WUMP 730-AM will host the Dick Adams Show presented by T-Mobile from 5-6 p.m. starting Tuesday at Wings Sports Grille. In April the time will shift to 6-7 p.m.

Adams will be on hand to talk Raptors football and answer questions from callers. The weekly event will also include ticket and merchandise giveaways.

Fan Day set for March 24: Tennessee Valley will host Raptors Fan Day on March 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the South Hall of the VBC. Fans can pick up and purchase season tickets, meet the players, coaches and staff, and find out how to join the Raptors Booster Club.
