
Rapids Midfielder Jamie Smith to Miss Six Months with Torn Acl

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado Rapids midfielder Jamie Smith is expected to miss approximately six months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee in Thursday's MLS Cup Playoffs match. The injury occurred in the 72nd minute of the match, a 1-0 win for the Rapids that advanced the team to the Conference Semifinals.
Smith will undergo surgery on his knee on Tuesday morning by Rapids Team Doctor Wayne Gersoff MD at Advanced Orthopedics in Denver, and Smith is expected to miss approximately six months while recovering. In 20 regular season matches (18 starts) in 2011, the Scottish midfielder scored three goals and added four assists.
The Rapids will take on Sporting Kansas City in an MLS Cup Playoffs Conference Semifinal, with the first leg of the home-and-home series taking place this Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
