Ransom, Grady And Everett Earn Week 6 Honors

May 11, 2010 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

TULSA - Tulsa line backer JAMAR RANSOM, Oklahoma City quarterback TOMMY GRADY and Milwaukee line backer MARCUS EVERETT have been named the JLS Ironman, Russell Athletic Offensive Player and Riddell Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 6 of 2010. In addition to these three awards, the AFL is also highlighting the player who makes the best catch of the week, the playmaker of the week, and the highlight of the week. The Cutters Catch of the Week Award for Week 6 goes to Tulsa wide receiver DONOVAN MORGAN, while Orlando's wide receiver RAYSHAWN KIZER has been named the Playmaker of the Week. The highlight of the week award has gone to Oklahoma City's wide receiver TIMON MARSHALL.

JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Ransom (6-0, 230, Oklahoma State) was an integral part of the Talons' 62-56 victory over the Alabama Vipers in Week 6 action. Ransom acted as the heart of the team, getting his teammates pumped up and nailing key plays. His most memorable play of the game was in the fourth quarter, when he broke through the line and sacked Vipers' QB Kevin Eakin for a safety. It gave the Talons their first lead of the game that they would eventually go on to win. In addition to the defensive score, Ransom also tallied 7.5 tackles and a pass break up.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Grady (6-7, 245, Oklahoma/Utah) had not only a stand-out performance for the weekend, it was also a stand-out performance for his season. Grady threw 34-of-42 for 430 yards and 10 touchdowns, all season-highs for the second year Yard Dawg. His completion rate of 81% is nearly 15 points higher than his season average. So far this season, Grady has tallied 1,513 passing yards, good for fifth most in the league.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Everett (6-1, 212, UCLA) is this week's defensive player of the week after his strong performance helped to lead the Milwaukee Iron to their fourth victory of the season. Milwaukee handed the Chicago Rush their first loss of the season, and Everett played a key role in the game. Everett tallied two interceptions, one which he ran back nine yards for a score and another which he ran back 46 yards for a score. The second interception was made one-handed and officially knocked the game out of reach for the Rush, bringing the score to 54-27. In total, Everett now has three interceptions on the season, good for second most in the league.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Morgan (6-3, 220, Pearl River C.C.) continues to be a dominant offensive presence for the Tulsa Talons, this week making seven catches for 76 yards and four touchdowns to give the Talons a 62-56 victory over Alabama. While Morgan made several important scores over the course of the evening, none was more worthy of an award than his catch late in the third. The receiver made a diving, one-handed catch in the endzone to knot the score at 42 apiece heading into the fourth. The Talons thrived off this momentum in the remaining quarter to successfully pull away with the win.

NIFTY PLAYMAKER OF THE GAME

Kizer (5-10, 192, Walsh) made the plays and made them count in Orlando's victory over the Dallas Vigilantes. While the Predators trailed most of the game, it was Kizer's late game performance that gave Orlando the victory. In his first start for the team this season, Kizer tallied three interceptions and a fumble recovery, all in the fourth quarter. The fumble recovery allowed Orlando to hold on to the lead as the game wound down. In addition to the interceptions and fumble recovery, Kizer also tallied three tackles and three pass break ups.

SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE GAME

Marshall (5-10, 180, Ottawa) stole the show and the game this weekend in Oklahoma City's 88-79 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings. The BattleWings managed to pull ahead 79-75 in the fourth quarter with :33 remaining on the clock, but the Yard Dawgz' staunch defense forced Bossier-Shreveport to resort to a field goal as the final minutes were ticking down. The field goal was missed and fell into the hands of Marshall, who ran the ball back for a score to put Oklahoma City ahead 82-79 with only :04 remaining on the clock. The Yard Dawgz managed another score off a fumble recovery on the final play of the game, but it was Marshall's return that put Oklahoma City up for good.
