Marquette Rangers News Release

Marquette - Josh Bussell began his North American Hockey League career with the Marquette Rangers during the 2007 - 08 season. After being traded back to Marquette in October of this season, the veteran forward has made the most of his time back in Upper Michigan.

The downstate LaSalle native scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season to help power the Rangers to a 4 - 2 win Saturday night as Marquette competed a two game sweep of the Alpena IceDiggers.

Alpena opened the scoring on a power play goal from Josh Miller at 3:38 of the first period, with Marquette native Joel Benson getting one of the assists on the goal.

The lead held until the 15:27 mark of the period when Bussell scored his first of the night on a wrist shot that ricochet off of an Alpena defender past goaltender Marco Weiser. Tanner Kero and Marquette's Brad Chapman added the assists as the first period ended 1 - 1.

Bussell's second of the night came midway through the second period when Weiser appeared to have the puck stopped; only to have Bussell slam the loose puck behind him giving the Rangers a 2 -1 lead. The lead was extended to 3 -1 when Andrew Kolb picked off an errant pace during an IceDigger power play and skated in on Weiser beating him low on the stick side for the shorthanded goal.

After Alpena made is 3 -2 on a two-man power play at 4:18 of the third, the Rangers Tanner Kero scored from Collin Saint-Onge and Garrett Ladd for the final score.

Weiser finished with 22 saves on the evening, while Rangers netminder Lukas Hafner stopped 39 of 41 Alpena efforts on the night.

The Rangers, now five points behind first place Traverse City in the NAHL North Division, travel to Janesville to take on the third place Jets next weekend.
