Ranger Returns To Texas

May 3, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox announced the signing of former major league pitcher Wes Littleton. He pitched a total of 80 games over three seasons with the Texas Rangers.

The 6-2, 218 lbs right-hander resides in Canyon Lake, California and attended Cal State Fullerton where he earned third-team All-American status in 2002. Though originally drafted by the Montreal Expos in 2000, he did not sign until 2003 when he was drafted by the Rangers in the fourth round, 106th overall.

The 29-year old sidearm-delivering reliever quickly rose up the ranks and made his Major League debut on July 4, 2006 against the Toronto Blue Jays. He split time between triple-AAA Oklahoma City and the Rangers in 2007 and 2008.

Littleton was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2008, but never played. He was claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers and spent 2009 in their farm system.

He spent 2010 in the Seattle organization, advancing up to triple-AAA Tacoma under former Amarillo Dillas manager and current Tacoma manager Daren Brown. Littleton was released following the 2010 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

His career record is 5-3 with a 3.69 ERA in the Major League with a 33-25 record to go with a 3.97 career ERA in the minor leagues. Additionally, he has committed only one error in his entire professional career of 242 games.

Littleton's claim to fame might be the August 22, 2007 game against the Baltimore Orioles while pitching for the Rangers. He entered the game in seventh inning with a 14-3 lead and pitched three scoreless innings in relief, earning a save. The Rangers offense scored another 16 runs in the final three innings for a 30-3 margin of victory. Littleton holds the Major League record for biggest run differential while still earning a save.
