GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League announced today the signing of veteran defensive specialist Mark Ricks.

Ricks (5-10, 175, Western Michigan), who ranks among the AFL's all-time leaders in tackles (T-8th), pass breakups (4th) and interceptions (4th), began the 2003 campaign with the Arizona Rattlers, but was released last week. In five games for the Rattlers this season, Ricks registered 16.5 tackles and three interceptions.

Prior to signing with the Rattlers, Ricks spent two seasons with this week's Rampage opponent, the Los Angeles Avengers (2001-02). His other AFL stops include the Oklahoma Wranglers (2000), Portland Forest Dragons (1998-99), Nashville Kats (1997) and St. Louis Stampede (1996).

Ricks split his collegiate career between Western Michigan University and Santa Monica (Calif.) College. During his two seasons (1991-92) with the Broncos, Ricks amassed 73 tackles and eight interceptions. His team-leading five interceptions as a senior earned the Los Angeles native first-team All-MAC honors.
