Rampage Open Tryout Set For December 8

November 13, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

KENTWOOD, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Rampage will host an open tryout here at The Soccer Spot Friday, Dec. 8, from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. (EST) in an effort to bolster the Arena Football League team's roster for its upcoming 10th Anniversary Season.

The Soccer Spot, the Rampage's indoor field turf practice facility, is located at 3701 32nd Street SE, Kentwood, MI, 49512. Pre-registration forms can be found online at RampageFootball.com. Cost for those who pre-register is set at $50, which can be paid by cash, check or money order. Tryout-day registration costs $60 cash and will be available beginning at 7 a.m.

Rampage Head Coach Sparky McEwen and his coaching staff will be on hand to evaluate all players at the tryout camp. With the AFL's recent rule changes allowing free substitution, the Rampage are looking for players at all true positions, not just two-way specialists.

All Rampage football candidates are required to wear appropriate attire for non-contact football drills (i.e., shorts or sweats, sneakers and field turf shoes). Participants will go through various non-contact drills such as a 40-yard dash, short shuttle, broad jump and 225-pound bench press; as well as individual and team drills.

Since 2005, the Rampage have signed more players from open tryouts than any other team in the AFL. Eleven players have earned AFL contracts from the team's open tryouts over the last two seasons. Most prominent among these 11 players is WR/DB Timon Marshall, who led the AFL in all-purpose yards this past season and was a finalist for the AFL's 2006 Ironman of the Year.

The Rampage can bring 37 players to training camp for the 2007 season and look heavily on open tryouts to fill key roster spaces. Many Rampage players and AFL legends have come from open tryouts, including former Rampage WR/DB and ArenaBowl XIX MVP/Ironman Willis Marshall, two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner, New Orleans Saints All-Pro kick returner Michael Lewis and AFL legend George LaFrance.

Players interested in participating should contact Andy Lopusnak, football operations manager for the Rampage, at (616) 975-7708, ext. 17, or via email at andy@rampagefootball.com.
