Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

Grand Rapids, MI - Just in time for their preseason finale this Thursday in Buffalo, the ArenaBowl XV Champion Grand Rapids Rampage signed defensive specialists Terrance Joseph and Mark Herron, both of whom have spent time with the Buffalo Destroyers.

Joseph (6-1, 201, Tulsa) played the past two seasons with the San Jose Sabercats before he was picked eighth overall by the Destroyers in the 2001 Arena Football League Expansion Draft, which was held for the Dallas Desperados. Buffalo acquired picks in the expansion draft by trading two of their picks in the 2001 AFL Dispersal Draft, which was held a week later for the four teams that were contracted during the off-season. The former Tulsa Golden Hurricane recently spent part of training camp with the Destroyers, but was released prior to the team's first preseason game. While in San Jose, Joseph racked up 34.5 tackles, 12 pass break-ups and three interceptions. His other professional experience includes stints with the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers. He also spent part of last season with the XFL's San Francisco Demons.

"Terrance may just be the player that we have been looking for," said Michael Trigg, Rampage head coach and director of football operations. "In San Jose, Terrance played an open style of defense that our defensive backs like to play. All of us in the AFL want a big, physical defensive specialist that can run and coach Marshall Foreman (defensive coordinator) is excited about his addition to the club."

Herron (6-0, 182, Toledo) spent training camp and played in one preseason game last season with the Destroyers, but was released just before the start of the regular season. Before joining the professional ranks, Herron was a four-year starter and an All-MAC honoree at Toledo, registering over 310 career tackles and eight interceptions. As a senior in 1996, he led the MAC in interceptions (4), his team in tackles (102) and started all 11 games.

"Mark is a physical player that needs a chance to get on the field and show what he can do," Trigg said. "We like his size and aggressive nature and hope he can push for a spot on the roster with solid play this week in Buffalo."

All in all, the Rampage will travel with six former Destroyers when the team finishes their preseason schedule in Buffalo this Thursday night at the HSBC Arena. The game can be heard live on WBBL 1340 AM. Pre-game starts at 7:10 p.m., kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
