Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

The Grand Rapids Rampage have announced the signing of defensive specialist Marvin Taylor, one of the AFL's most productive defenders. Taylor spent the past two seasons as the starting DS for the Las Vegas Gladiators - the league's top defensive unit.

"The defensive specialist is the QB of the defense and Marvin is one of the best in the game," said Rampage head coach Sparky McEwen. "He's a proven player that is very familiar with the style of defense we'll be running this year."

Last season, Taylor posted career highs in interceptions (seven) and tackles (62.5) as he led a Gladiators team that allowed less than 3,700 passing yards. Over the last two seasons only Orlando's Kenny McEntyre has had more interceptions (14) than Taylor's 12. During the same time frame, the Rampage defense recorded just 13 interceptions.

Taylor (6'1" 180 lbs. Florida A&M) will enter his fifth AFL season in 2006 - all with Rampage assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Stan Davis. Davis originally recruited Taylor to the Chicago Rush in 2001 from the af2's Tallahassee Thunder.

"Year-in and year-out Marvin has had All-Arena caliber seasons," said Davis. "He's a great athlete who has a nose for where and when the ball is coming towards him. Marvin makes some of the best adjustments I've ever seen."

Prior to his Arena Football career, Taylor was a three-year letterman at wide receiver for Florida A&M University where he caught 63 passes for five touchdowns during his final two seasons.
