Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN, S.C. - Al Corbeil hit two home runs and Travis Kane did not allow a run in 6.1 innings as the Bradenton Juice (43-36, 19-16) held on for a 6-5 victory over the Aiken Foxhounds (38-43, 16-20) Saturday night in the rubber game of a three-game series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
Trailing 5-0, Aiken mounted a rally in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs on three hits. Kelly Hunt plated the first run with an RBI single, and after Garth McKinney walked to load the bases, Bradley Key drove in two with a single to center.
Al Corbeil's second home run of the night and fourth in the three-game series provided what proved to be a much-needed insurance run in the top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, Tim Sweeney followed a Dustin Richardson walk with a two-run home run to left field, cutting the lead to 6-5. After Bradenton's Lavelle Morgan struck out Evandy DeLeon, B.J. Richmond walked. Kelly Hunt then hit a long fly ball to center, but Luke Barganier tracked it down in front of the warning track. Tony Harper then flied out to end the game.
It was all Juice early on. After Nick Corbeil doubled to give the Juice a 1-0 lead in the second, his brother Al Corbeil blasted a two-run home run in the third to make it 4-0. Julius Thames added an RBI single in the third.
Another Julius Thames RBI single, this one in the top of the fifth, gave the visitors a 5-0 advantage and ended the night of Aiken starter Chris Delaney. Delaney (0-1) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while walking five and striking out four.
Kane meanwhile kept an Aiken offense which hit four home runs Friday night at bay. The right-handed hurler allowed just two hits through six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. After allowing a single and a walk, Kane was relieved by Marshall Plouffe, who got the next two batters out to end the inning.
Kane (6-1) allowed just three hits and two walks in 6.1 innings while striking out five.
Sweeney, Friday's starting pitcher who came into the game as a reserve, finished 2-for-3 including his fifth home run of the season. Harper added two hits in five at-bats.
Al Corbeil went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs and three runs scored, and Julius Thames went 4-for-4 with two RBI.
Aiken will take Sunday off before continuing their nine-game homestand on Monday with a 7:05 PM game against the South Georgia Peanuts.
