Peanuts blast Macon

South Georgia Peanuts News Release


The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, ended a four-game losing streak by easily defeating the Macon Music 16-6 on Saturday night. In the game, South Georgia either tied or set a new high for hits, runs and home runs.

In the first inning, South Georgia sent nine runners to the plate and scored five runs. Mike Caruso hit an RBI single to score Curtis Goodwin Sr. from second base. With two runners on, Josh Eachues picked up his first hit as a Peanut in a big way with a three run home run. Steve Butler then followed up with a solo home run.

The Peanuts continued to pour it on scoring a run in the second and three runs in the third. In the third, Brandon Woolard hit a solo home run and the Peanuts led 9-0 after three. Macon got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth off a two-run home from Casey Garrison but South Georgia answered back with two runs in the top of the fifth.

In the seventh inning, the South Georgia bats really got going once again as the Peanuts scored three more runs. Macon did make one final push in the bottom of the eighth by scoring four runs but the Peanuts responded with two more in the top of the ninth.

Starting pitcher Dustin Taylor was excellent for the Peanuts. He got the win to move to 9-2 on the season. Taylor pitched six innings allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out seven and did not walk anyone. Ja Jones and Mike Colacchio each pitched a scoreless inning to help secure the win for the Peanuts.

South Georgia picked up 21 hits, which is two more than their previous season-high of 19. Josh Eachues led the way for the Peanuts at the plate going 4-6 with two runs and four RBI. Brandon Woolard and Steve Butler each picked up three hits and three RBI while Goodwin scored three runs.

South Georgia has an off-day on Sunday before traveling to Aiken on Monday for a three-game series with the Foxhounds. Dumas Garcia is expected to get the start for the Peanuts.
