Halifax Rainmen News Release
Halifax, NS: In the back end of a home and home series, despite 29 from Tyrone Rayson and 26 from Karl Rainey, Halifax put six in double figures lead by 18 from Glen Dandridge and Cordell Jeanty as Halifax moves to 5-3 with a 105-94 victory over Buffalo.
This one was tight from the beginning with Halifax leading by five at the end of one. It could have been worse for the Stampede if not for Karl Rainey who hit for 15 in the first going six of eight from the field including two of three from three point range. In a 3:05 span of the first, he scored nine of Buffalo's 13 points.
In the second, the Rainey show continued as he seemed to be the only spark for the Stampede as he hit for nine of his team's 22 and the Rainmen held a two point lead at the break.
In the third, the Rainmen pulled away. Glen Dandridge went on a run of his own scoring seven during the run including a deep three and a cut and slash left hand layin to make it a 13 point lead. At the time, that was the largest lead of the game for Halifax. Defense was key for the Rainmen as Rob Sanders had a couple of huge blocks in a 45 second span of the third quarter. The Rainmen were also able to hold Rainey to only two points in the quarter as they outscored Buffalo by ten.
The fourth was not much different as Halifax held Buffalo at bay for the rest of the contest as the Rainmen move to 5-3 on the season while Buffalo drops to 1-5.
Notes: The announced attendance at the Metro Centre was 2,308. Buffalo was playing without Charles Easterling and Ed Rainey. It was reported Easterling had to be scratched due to a problem with the roster at the beginning of the game. Rainey missed the game due to travel issues out of Buffalo. For Halifax, journeyman and former NBAer John Strickland played his second game for the Rainmen scoring 12 points on 4-4 from the field and 4-6 from the line.
