Millrats Extend Winning Streak to Five

(January 25, 2009 Manchester, NH): The Manchester Millrats extended their winning streak to five games, defeating the Quebec Kebs at home 99-89.

The Millrats jumped out to an early 12-5 lead before Quebec came roaring back. The Kebs, who defeated the Vermont Frost Heaves Friday night, led 27-23 after the first quarter.

But the PBL's top defensive team came alive, and held Quebec scoreless in the first six minutes of the second quarter. Manchester seized on the opportunity and built a 49-43 lead at the half.

Manchester maintained a safe lead throughout the second half, although Quebec got as close as four points. But Manchester won going away in the fourth behind strong second half performances by Sam Carey (Manchester Central/SNHU) and Lincoln Glass.

The Millrats were led by Sam Carey with 17 points and 5 rebounds, Marlowe Currie's 16 points, Lincoln Glass with 15 points, and Desmond Ferguson's 12. Scott Hazelton and Tommy Mitchell added 11 a piece off the bench. Al Stewart had 9 assists in 22 minutes. The Kebs were led by Charles Fortier with 19 points.

The Millrats maintain hold of first place in the Atlantic Division with a 5-2 record, while Quebec drops to 2-4 on the season.

Manchester hits the road this week to Halifax, Nova Scotia to face the Rainmen (5-3). Next Sunday the Rainmen will be back in town at Southern New Hampshire University, for a 2:30pm tip off.
