Published on January 5, 2008 under American Basketball Association (ABA)
Halifax Rainmen News Release
Halifax, NS. On Sunday, the ABA Halifax Rainmen hosted their first home game of 2008 against the Montreal Royal. The Rainmen organization also paid tribute to Nova Scotia Minor Basketball with minor league players from all over the province on-hand. Nova Scotia's Minister of Health Promotion and Protection, Barry Barnet, was the honorary 13th player for the afternoon contest.
At halftime, award-winning percussionists Squid performed. This Halifax-based group has developed an exciting show filled with an edgy combination of precision drumming, Celtic music and Rock 'n' Roll.
The Canadian anthem was performed by recording artist Bruce Guthro. He stopped by the metro centre before leaving on a solo tour of Germany and Denmark. Guthro and Squid appeared courtesy of Casino Nova Scotia.
On Sunday, the Rainmen debuted their first player trading cards, with a free sample card for kids who attended the game. The cards are proudly sponsored by Pinky's Ice-Cream, the official treat of the Halifax Rainmen. Sunday provided an exciting day for all kids who love the game as much as the Rainmen.
