Raiders Succeed In Mission to Discover Talent

LAKELAND, FL - Despite soggy conditions and threatening skies, The Lakeland Raiders completed their first ever team try-out on Saturday, October 8th at Lakeland Christian School. Over 85 athletes from Louisiana, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Florida came out to test their skills with a variety of drills including weight training, sprints and field play - all in the hopes of achieving a coveted spot on the new Lakeland Raider Battalion.
In addition to the amazing talent shown on the field, several top professional players were also on hand including Miami Dolphins Center Mike Pouncey, former Lakeland Thunderbolts MVP Octavius "Gator" Day and current Lakeland Raider players Jeremy Burnett and Josh Smith. When asked about his try-out observations, Burnett had this to say "I have played football at every level and the amount of talent we had at this first event is tremendous. We will be a force to contend with when the season kicks-off."
Other highlights from the event included Trent Marlow bench pressing 225 pounds with 38 repetitions and Leon Covington achieving the fastest time on the forty yard sprint with a finish time of 4.21 seconds. A second try-out will be scheduled in the coming weeks and information will be available at thelakelandraiders.com.
Owner Michael Mink was thrilled with the event's success and the level of talent shown by all of the participants. "The athletes that braved the weather and came out for our first try-out exceeded our expectations. The field was on fire with talent! We are so thankful for Lakeland Christian School and the partners and players who made our first ever try-out a rousing success."
The Lakeland Raiders' season tickets are on sale now and with prices ranging from $59 to $140. For fans wanting the "Ultimate In-The-Game-Experience," lower level boxes, with seating for up to 10 fans, are available for $3500.
