Raiders Face Rome Friday Night
Published on April 25, 2012 under Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL)
Lakeland Raiders News Release
The last time the Rampage came to Lakeland, they suffered a 63-24 thrashing at the hands of the Raiders. Rome's fortunes have not improved since that game. Now they're back to face the Raiders in Lakeland for a second time. The Raiders have dramatically retooled on offense and defense since the first meeting between these two teams.
This week's game will be the first Friday night game in the Raiders' young history. Kick off is scheduled for 7:15, but come early for the pre-game festivities.
About the Rampage
The Rome Rampage have lost four straight after a promising season opening victory. Rome has several dynamic athletes on the roster, but has yet to find the formula for parlaying that talent into wins. Head Coach Joe Micco and the rest of the coaching staff have been working intensely to find the elusive combination that will put the Rampage back in the win column on Friday.
Players to Watch:
Rome -
QB Jamaris Walden
Walden is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the UIFL. The multi-talented athlete has shown an ability to find the open man downfield or make something happen with his feet.
WR Jeff Phillips
Watch for Phillips to be Walden's primary target again this week. The 6', 210 lbs receiver out of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga consistently puts up three TD receptions each week.
Lakeland:
FB Travis Anderson
Travis Anderson scored nine rushing touchdowns in his three games as the Raiders starting FB. After missing action due to an injury, he is ready to return to the lineup and pickup where he left off.
WR DeAngelo Woodie
DeAngelo Woodie has been doing double - even triple - duty, playing offense, defense, and special teams. With the return of Ricory Green to the active roster, Woodie will get a chance to take a breather while the Raiders are on defense, making him that much more dangerous as a Wide Receiver .
What they're saying:
"In the Tarpons game we had 4 turnovers and we lost by 8. That shouldn't happen. It's just getting back to fundamentals, back to basics."
- Lakeland Raiders GM Feddy Afofeifa on the team's philosophy
"We have to get out of the gate faster... if we adjust and come out harder in the first half we'll be a better team."
