Raging Tide Pitcher Gelinas Signs with Cape League

Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH - The Raging Tide have announced that University of Maine pitcher, Jeff Gelinas, has signed with the Cape Cod Baseball League. Gelinas had signed on to return to Old Orchard Beach this summer, but was noticed by several Major League Baseball scouts while UMaine has been playing down in Florida the last couple of weeks. It was suggested that Gelinas make the move to the Cape League where approximately one in every eight players goes on to play some level of professional baseball.

Although the loss will be felt on the Raging Tide, Gelinas is leaving with the full support of the entire organization.

"Jeff is a genuinely good kid who was a very important part of the team, both on and off the field, for us last year," said Raging Tide owner, John Gallo.

"We understand that the Cape League is the premier collegiate summer baseball league in the country. We wouldn't normally release a player from his contract, but we want what is best for Jeff, and we know this is the right decision," added owner, Pam Gallo.

Gelinas is currently in his freshman year at the University of Maine. The Saco native attended Thornton Academy where he starred on the baseball team and was captain for two years. For the Raging Tide last season, Gelinas appeared in 8 games and amassed a solid 3.85 ERA.

"We're going to miss Jeff being part of the team, but I told him that once he makes it to the big leagues we'll be able to say 'We knew him when.,' and we're just happy to have him as a part of the Raging Tide family. We wish him all the best as his journey continues and are looking forward to following him throughout his career," concluded John Gallo.

The Raging Tide's home opener is on June 4th at 7pm at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach against the Nashua Silver Knights.
