Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League has announced the dedication of an Empty Seat memorial at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.

The Empty Seat dedication is a culmination of efforts on the part of the Raging Tide along with a supporting effort from the Rolling Thunder-Maine Chapter 1, the POW/MIA Recognition weekend, and the Old Orchard Beach Ballpark Commission to bring this memorial to Old Orchard Beach. The Empty Seat will serve as a symbol for the more than 92,000 American soldiers who fought overseas and are unaccounted for since World War I.

The Raging Tide recently concluded their 2013 season which saw the team win the franchise's first ever playoff game en route to advancing all the way to the FCBL semi-finals. The Tide was also able to bring playoff baseball back to Old Orchard Beach with a home game played at The Ballpark, something that had not occurred for 28 years.

The Empty Seat memorial will serve as another historical first for the Raging Tide as it will be the first "Empty Seat" dedication in the State of Maine.

Over the years, other organizations such as the Boston Red Sox (Fenway Park) and the New England Patriots (Gillette Stadium) have created Empty Seat memorials in their respective facilities as well.

Throughout the country, Empty Seat memorials have been an effort led by many Rolling Thunder organizations ranging all the way from East Tennessee to Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Dedication Ceremony for the Empty Seat Memorial will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 1:00pm during the POW/MIA Recognition Weekend at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach. The POW/MIA Recognition Weekend will begin on Friday, September 20th at 4:00pm.
