Evansville Rage News Release
(Evansville, IN) - General Manager, Eddie Cronin, would like to take time to make an official retraction about a story that was reported on March 16, 2012 in the Evansville Courier & Press.
Steve Ford, reporter, came to our practice and requested quotes for our upcoming game. He got quotes from everyone there including; Mike Goodpaster, other coaches and players, as well as myself. Unfortunately; a quote was made in bad taste,
"The biggest thing for us is to show people we're not the BlueCats," said Goodpaster. "They left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. We're going to show them better talent, a better brand of football." As well as: "You're going to get action," said Goodpaster, a first-year professional head coach. "And, unlike the BlueCats, you're going to get a win."
Our head coach has always been a very excitable guy, unfortunately his words put an organization into a bad light that it did not deserve, for that he apologizes. Coach Goodpaster says,
"I would like to say after rereading what I said, I would like to apologize if any comments I made offended anyone within the former Bluecats organization or anyone that was involved with the franchise. This was by no means my intention; I was just trying to make the point that we have every intention of winning all of our games. He continues "We have former Bluecats on our team and staff. They are a great group of men and women, who I respect very much. By no means did I mean they were a terrible organization, on the contrary I respect them very much. The people I've met who were in the organization have been stand up men and women. I highly respect all of them. I can promise you this: There will be no more comments made privately or publicly about the Bluecats. Once again I apologize and feel very bad if my comments hurt anyone that was with the Bluecats, it was not my intention."
The Rage has many staff members and players from the former Bluecat franchise, myself included. I worked for the Bluecats as a utility lineman. Our Offensive Line and Special Teams Coach, Kory White, worked as an intern coaching Strength and Conditioning. Levron Williams, Wide Receivers Coach, was a huge part of the Bluecats as a WR/DB. One of our dance team directors was a part of the staff of the Bluecats from the very beginning and worked with them for all five years of their existence. Tarron Acuff, a Defensive Back, played with the Bluecats as well.
Again, I cannot express how sorry I am that a member of our staff spoke ill of the Bluecats, this is not something that I want associated with the Evansville Rage. I have reprimanded him appropriately and these quotes will not be tolerated. We are and want to continue to be an organization that the city and league can be proud of. I hope that we can get past this mistake and continue to show that we, as a franchise, is something that this city and league can be proud to be associated with.
Thank you,
Eddie Cronin
