Rage Melt the Ice in Season Opener

St. Charles, MO - The RiverCity Rage Professional Indoor Football Team won their UIF season opener 42-35 over the Colorado Ice in dramatic fashion. The crowd of 3,334 at the Family Arena in St. Charles got its money's worth as they saw the home team score touchdowns on back-to-back plays in the final quarter to win the opener for the second consecutive season.
Leading into the game's final stanza leading 28-21, the Rage (1-0) quickly found themselves in a 35-28 hole as the Ice scored the first two touchdowns of the quarter. However, with 4:41 to play, quarterback Anthony Fisher hooked up with his favorite target from last season, Hurtis Chinn, on a 21-yard TD pass to tie the score at 35 a piece. Then on Colorado's (0-1) first snap, Rage linebacker Joe Bevis forced a fumble from Ice quarterback Steve Cutlip. RiverCity's Terrell Washington pounced on the loose ball in the endzone, giving the Rage the lead for good, 42-35.
RiverCity was paced on offense by Fisher threw the air, who rang up 141 yards passing with two touchdowns and on the ground by newcomer Michael Franklin who rushed for 33 yards and one score. Defensively, the Rage were led by Bevis (six tackles, forced fumble, and fumble recovery), safety Milton Proctor (5.5 tackles and two interceptions), and cornerback Brandon Gregory (5.5 tackles and an interception).
The Rage trailed 21-18 going into halftime. Franklin and Fisher each had rushing touchdowns and Derek Kutz added two field goals for the RiverCity first half scoring. The Rage were the only team to score in quarter number three as Fisher found Travis Williams for a 29-yard TD throw, giving RiverCity a 25-21 lead. Kutz would add another field goal late in the quarter to extend the lead to 28-21 setting up the dramatic fourth quarter.
The Rage hit the road this weekend and get their first look at UIF newcomer, the Wichita Wild at 7:00 this Saturday. The game can always be heard at 100.7 The Fan KFNS and online at ragefootball.com. The team returns to the Family Arena on Saturday, March 22nd as they welcome the Omaha Beef to town. Kickoff is set for 7:00 with gates opening at 6:00.
