February 8, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Southaven, Miss. - The Rocky Mountain Rage were defeated by the Mississippi RiverKings, 5-1, at the DeSoto Civic Center, dropping them to 2-3-0 on this seven-game road trip. Stephen Margeson had a pair of goals to lead the way for the ‘Kings.

The Rage actually scored first when Simon Watson was set-up by Scott Wray on a clean short-handed two-on-one. Watson went upstairs at 13:09 to extend his current point streak to seven straight games (7g-4a).

Still on the power play, though, Mississippi answered right back. Jeff Alcombrack's shot from the point deflected off a body past Rocky Mountain netminder Scott Reid at 14:18 to quickly tie the game at one. The RiverKings then struck twice more off the sticks of Dallas Costanzo at 16:55 and Jeff Nelson at 18:02 to take a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Margeson's two tallies at 11:58 on the power play in the second and at 17:57 of the third made it five consecutive goals for the ‘Kings as they cruised to the 5-1 win.

Rocky Mountain, which came into the game having scored 11 power play goals over the past three games, could not get anything going with the man advantage, failing on all 10 of its chances. Mississippi went 2 for 6.

The Rage are now 24-20-4 with 52 points, still in fifth place in the Northern Conference 16 points ahead of the sixth-place Rapid City Rush. But the club missed a key opportunity to advance in the conference standings. Rocky Mountain is six points behind the fourth-place Oklahoma City Blazers who were idle tonight.

The Rage and RiverKings conclude their two-game set on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Civic Center. All the live play-by-play action can be heard on ESPN Radio 1600 beginning with the pre-game show at 5:55 p.m. MST.
