Rage Lose Heartbreaker

April 16, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
RiverCity Rage News Release

The RiverCity Rage lost their first regular season game of 2006, a 65-58 defeat at the hands of the Billings. The Outlaws came gunning early as quarterback Chris Dixon hit wide receivers BJ Charlton and Robert Reed with touchdown passes in the first 5 minutes of play. Down 23-6 at the end of the first period, and 44-36 at the half the Rage used a touchdown pass from Clay Groefsema to Cory Bethany in a 3 yard touchdown run from Sha-ron Edwards to go ahead 50-44 at 8:37 of the 3rd period. After a Chris Dixon 15 yard touchdown run, Groefsema scored on a 2 yard quarterback sneak and the Rage converted the 2 point conversion to go ahead 58-51. The two 4th quarter scores by Billings were the difference as the Outlaws went to 4 and 1 on the year. The Rage fell 3 to one and lost their first regular season home game since 2004.

"The ball just didn't bounce our way tonight but I really appreciate our player's effort, it was a tough game but they never gave up, they fought hard till the very end." Head Coach Mike Wyatt said while commenting on Friday night's game.

Proceeds from the game benefited Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Cancer survivors were honored during pregame and halftime ceremonies, and the team wore commemorative jerseys trimmed in lavender. Lavender is the color that promotes general cancer awareness.

The Rage travel to Cincinnati next for a divisional showdown April 22 against the 1-2 Marshals, a team the Rage defeated earlier this season.
