Rafael Alves and Tom Heinemann Earn NASL Team of the Week Honours
April 22, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON (April 22, 2015) - Ottawa Fury FC defender Rafael Alves and forward Tom Heinemann have both been named to the NASL Team of the Week, the NASL announced Wednesday, following their respective performances in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Minnesota United FC - the first win of the 2015 campagin for Ottawa in their home opener at TD Place.
Alves was a dominant force in the Fury FC back line silencing last season's Golden Boot winner Christian Ramirez proving the calm, strength and experience that the towering centre back brings to Ottawa. The Brazilian defender led Ottawa's back line to an impressive defensive display against a Minnesota squad that has plenty of fire power in its arsenal, one that Ottawa limited to just two shots.
Many would argue that Tom Heinemann had his best game in an Ottawa uniform and his tally in the 68th minute proved to be the difference earning Ottawa a massive three points against Minnesota United, the first time in club history that Ottawa has earned a result against the Loons.
Heinemann's goal, his first of the season, saw the American fight off a pair of Minnesota defenders and calmly slot a shot through Sammy Ndjock that brought the 5000+ in attendance at TD Place to their feet.
