
Radford Catcher Signs with WV Miners

Radford University catcher Will Harless has signed to play for West Virginia Miners during the 2019 Prospect League season, the team announced on November 3. He is the sixth player to commit to the Miners for the upcoming summer season.
The summer of 2019 will see Harless report to the Miners following the completion of his sophomore collegiate season at Radford , which is an NCAA D-I member school that plays in the Big South Conference.
Harless appeared in 42 games (37 starts) during his freshman season for the Highlanders in 2018. He was behind the plate for 18 of his starts while the remaining 19 starts were spent filling the designated hitter role. The right-handed hitter finished with a .221 batting average (29-for-131) on the 2018 season that also included three doubles, a triple and two homers along with 20 RBI. The 6'2" 220-pounder was very effective hitting with two outs as in that regard he logged an excellent .333 average (15-for-45). He made the most of his playing time by recording seven 2-hit games along with four multi-RBI showings. On May 7, 2018, Harless was named as the Big South Conference "Freshman of the Week" on the heels of going 3-for-8 with two runs and two RBI at Georgia Tech.
Harless arrived at Radford with an impressive baseball resume' from his high school career at his hometown Abingdon (VA) High School. He received a ranking from Perfect Game of being the seventh best high school catcher in the state of Virginia. He led Abingdon to three consecutive high school postseason appearances in 2015, 2016, and 2017. He also received both All-Conference and All-State honors during his final year of high school competition.
The Prospect League is the premier collegiate wood bat summer baseball league in the Midwest. It has been operating in its current form since 2009 while serving the summer baseball needs of top collegiate players. The West Virginia Miners, who play at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV, have been a member of the league since the beginning of the 2010 season. The team has reached the postseason playoffs in seven of their nine seasons in the Prospect League to date. These seven postseason appearances have included five trips to the league championship final series with three of the trips resulting with the Miners being crowned as Prospect League Champions (2012, 2013, 2016).
