Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers have signed University of Tennessee outfielder Megan Geer to a two-year contract the team announced today. Geer was selected with the 15th overall pick in the third round of the 2017 NPF Draft in April. Geer's signing completes the Racers rookie class signings.
"To hear that I was coming (to Akron), I was happy about that because I had heard a lot of good things from most of the people (I talked to) about the atmosphere, the way they run the program," Geer said. I was really happy for that."
Geer, who arrived in town this week said that so far things have exceeded her expectations.
"The high level of athletes (is impressive)," Geer said. "College is obviously a high level, but even more so in the pros, having depth completely through the team is very cool."
Geer recently completed her senior season in which she helped lead the Volunteers to the Super Regionals, where they were eliminated by Texas A&M in a three-game series, one step short of the Women's College World Series.
Throughout the 2017 season, Geer finished second on her team with six home runs, while also posting 46 runs, 34 RBI and 42 hits. Geer also led Tennessee with four game-winning home runs. For her season Geer was named a Third Team NFCA All-Southeast Region selection. It was her second consecutive selection to the All-Southeast Region team.
Her senior season backed up a breakout junior campaign in which Geer set career highs with 61 runs, 60 hits, 55 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 26 attempts.
A standout performer for the Volunteers for the entirety of her career, Geer put her name all over the Tennessee career record book. She finished third in school history with 212 runs scored and 137 walks. Geer also finished sixth with 37 home runs and eighth with 173 RBI in her career. The speed outfielder is also 10th in Volunteer history with 58 stolen bases, only being thrown out three times trying to steal.
