
Racers Fall to Bandits, 8-5

AKRON, OH -June 24, 2012- The Akron Racers (5-7) started off the game, in the bottom of the first, with two runs scored by the first two batters when Sharonda McDonald took a hit-by-pitch to reach first base and Lisa Modglin singled to reach safely. One batter later, after another hit-by-pitch, the Racers scored their first run when with bases loaded; Nicole Pauly drew a walk to set the score at 1-0.
Taylor Schlopy followed her up with a fielder's choice single to second base, earning an RBI on the play to give the Racers two runs.
The Racers scored three more, but it would not be enough as the Bandits (9-3) rallied behind two Kristen Butler home runs to defeat the Racers, 8-5, sweeping the weekend series.
In the top of the first inning Kristen Butler blasted a three-run home run, putting the Bandits on the board with an early 3-0 lead. She then had a two-run home run in the second inning and an RBI single in the third. Butler assisted in scoring six of the eight runs from the Bandits in today's ball game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Racers slugger Nicole Pauly blasted a solo home run to close the scoring gap to 7-4. Herron pinch ran for Trimboli and scored in the sixth inning but the Racers couldn't come back to beat the Bandits in the seventh.
Hillary Bach (1-2) started the game off in the pitching circle for Akron, pitching 1.2 innings allowing six runs on eight hits and now has an ERA of 3.39.
Lisa Norris (1-2) pitched five innings for the Racers; she had eight strikeouts, one walk, and allowed two runs on 10 hits. Thorson finished the game pitching 0.1 innings and has an ERA of 3.70 after today's game.
Nikki Nemitz (3-1) started in the pitching circle for the Bandits, tossing 5.1 innings with nine strikeouts, one walk, and five runs on seven hits.
Michelle Moses also saw the pitching circle for one inning, giving up one hit and had one walk. Monica Abbott finished the game off for the Bandits pitching 0.2 innings and has an ERA of 1.24.
