Racers Fall to Bandits 14-8

AKRON, OH -The Chicago Bandits, with a late offensive power surge in the top of the seventh inning, stole game two of a Saturday double header in dramatic fashion from the Akron Racers, 14-8.

Megan Wiggins started things off for the Bandits with a two-RBI home run over the center field fence. Racers pitcher Lisa Norris answered back with three straight outs to end the inning.

The Racers struck back in the bottom of the first inning when center fielder Lisa Modglin smacked a triple, bringing in Sharonda McDonald for one RBI. Catcher Sam Marder tied up the game with a sacrifice fly bringing Modglin home for the 2-2 score.

The Racers scored their final run of the inning when Nicole Pauly blasted a solo home run over the centerfield fence, taking the lead from the Bandits.

Chicago's pitcher, Nikki Nemitz, was pulled from the game after taking a direct hit off of a Taylor Schlopy's liner to the knee right before the last out the inning.

Rhea Taylor appeared in her first career at-bat for the Bandits in the top of the second inning. The Bandits struck back with three singles and one walk earning one run before any outs in the top of the second.

With a fielding error by the Racers, the Bandits took back the lead when Vicky Galindo hit the ball to left field, gaining two bases and bringing in two RBIs. After giving up a hit-by-pitch, Norris buckled down and struck out the last two batters leaving the score at 5-3.

Chanda Bell entered the pitching circle in the bottom of the second inning, holding steady against the Racers.

The Racers rebounded in the bottom of the third inning when Pauly hit her second consecutive home run of the night, bringing in two RBIs and tying the score once again. Three batters later, with two outs and one on base, Alicia Herron hit a two-run home run, taking the lead once again.

The Bandits immediately retaliated with Wiggins' second home run of the night, leaving the score 7-6, Racers.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Bandits scored two runs putting them up by one.

The seventh inning started off great for the Racers defense, with back-to-back outs. The inning took a bad turn after Norris walked three batters and allowed one single. With the Bandits up by two, Brittany Cervantes pinch-hit for Amber Patton, bringing in four runs after a fielding error by the Racers, turning her triple into a run for 14 runs on the board.

The Racers managed to score one run before the Bandits ended the game, 14-8.
