Rockford Thunder News Release
June 4, 2009 - ROSCOE, Ill. - The Thunder and Racers went six full innings without a run being scored on Thursday night before Akron put up four runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Rockford 4-0.
The Racers (1-1) sent third year pitcher Jamee Juarez to the circle and she was impressive in the complete game win. Juarez did walk six batters in the game, but only surrendered four singles to the Thunder offense. Juarez also did some damage at the plate with a 3-for-3 night and the first run of the game.
Rockford (1-1) had plenty of chances in the game to get on the board, including a bases loaded situation in the first, but came away empty handed each time. In the game the Thunder left nine people on base and have already stranded 14 people in two games.
Allison Kime took the loss for the Thunder in the game. She tossed 6.2 innings, but gave up a two RBI double to Jackie Pasquerella and then a two RBI single to Kate Robinson before being lifted from the game. Cat Osterman came on to relieve Kime and needed just one pitch to get out of the inning.
Akron and Rockford will square off again on Friday night at Thunder Park in Roscoe for game three of the five game series. Rookie Samantha Sheeley will most likely be in the circle for the Thunder. Rookies Shannon Nord and Ashley Holcombe will also be making their professional debuts for the Thunder on Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $7 or $10 at the ticket booth.
Friday will also be the first half-priced draft beer night for the Thunder. All Budweiser and Bud Light drafts will be available at the game for just $1.50.
