San Diego Riptide News Release
GRAND RAPIDS â Putting up big numbers on defense does take you places. Riptide DS Quincy LeJay was signed to the practice squad of the Grand Rapids Rampage yesterday. He is the second Riptide player to move up to the AFL.
This is not the first time that LeJay has played in the AFL. He made his arena football debut with the Nashville Kats in 2001, but tore his ACL in pre-season, missing the opportunity to play due to the injury. The following year, the Kats moved to Georgia where he played briefly between re-injuring his ACL and recorded 8.5 tackles and a fumble recovery.
LeJay began his af2 career with the San Diego Riptide in 2003 and notched 64 tackles and three interceptions in just six games. During the 2004 season, he led the team in tackles with 82.5 on the year. In addition, he also came away with two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 11 break ups. He recorded five or more tackles in nine games and took home ADT Defensive Player of the Game three times.
In other news, QB Anthony Buich will be joining the Riptide 2005 training camp and will compete for the starting position with recent assignments Craig Whelihan and Kevin Feterik. Buich was placed on "other league exempt" when he was set to the active roster for the Nashville Kats. He was released by the team yesterday.
