Quakes Come From Behind To Win 7-6

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Ervin Santana made his first rehab start with the Quakes on Monday and retired the first eight batters he faced with two strikeouts. He fell behind Ron Garth, the ninth place hitter, and allowed a solo home run to give High Desert a 1-0 lead.

The Quakes answered with two runs of their own in the 3rd as PJ Phillips clubbed a two-out solo home run. Clay Fuller and Andrew Romine followed with singles and Fuller would score from third on a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead.

Santana would pitch into the 5th inning before allowing a lead off double to Travis Scott and a two-run home run to Carlos Peguero to give High Desert a 3-2 edge. Santana pitched 4 2/3 and allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three.

The Mavs would add to their lead against Esmerlin Jimenez in the 6th on a sacrifice fly by Alex Liddi and a two-out two-run home run by Travis Scott to grab a 6-2 lead.

The Quakes came back in the 6th with three runs on a RBI single by Jeremy Moore and a two-run single by Alberto Rosario to bring Rancho within a run 6-5.

Rancho would tie the game in the 7th as Romine singled with one out, stole second, and after Matt Sweeney drew a walk, Romine and Sweeney pulled off a double steal with Julio Perez at the plate. Perez would drive in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Quakes plated the go ahead run in the 8th as Jeremy Moore doubled to lead off the inning and Hector Estrella moved him to third with ground out to second. With Rosario at the plate, catcher Jose Yepez dropped a pitch and allowed Moore to score from third with the game eventual winning run. Ysmael Carmona struck out two in a perfect 9th to preserve the 7-6 win.

Rancho will take their two straight wins on the road to Modesto for the first of a three game series against the Nuts. The Quakes will start left-hander Jayson Miller against left-hander Brandon Durden of the Nuts. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
