13 Inning Pitching Duel Ends with Rawhide Home Run

It was the kind of game where both teams pitched so well, it's a shame one of them had to lose. Backup shortstop Eli Rumler hit a solo home run over the left field wall to open the bottom of the 13th inning for the game's only run as the Visalia Rawhide defeated the Lancaster JetHawks 1-0 Monday night. The win completed a four-game sweep of the JetHawks by the Rawhide.
Both starters were terrific as they dueled to a scoreless draw. Jeff Icenogle became the first Lancaster starter to pitch into the ninth inning since Greg Smith's complete game one-hitter in 2006. The lefty scattered only four hits while working eight and 2/3 innings. He came out after 95 pitches with two men on and two men out in the bottom of the ninth. Bryan Hallberg got the JetHawks out of the jam and sent the game into extra innings.
While Hallberg stayed strong for three full innings of relief, the JetHawks offense was not able to get anything behind him. Craig Corrado's one-out single in the ninth inning gave Lancaster its last base runner, as three Rawhide pitchers shut the JeHawks down over the final four innings. Rumler hit the home run to open the thirteenth inning and the JetHawks were out of luck.
The JetHawks managed just four hits in the game. Lancaster got three runners as far as second base. David Flores doubled with two outs in the second inning, Eric Taylor got there on an error in the fifth, and Taylor reached second again after a single and a ground out in the eight but no Lancaster runner got as far as third base.
The long night will get longer for the JetHawks as they make the five hour drive to Lake Elsinore to battle the Storm Tuesday night. David Duncan (0-4) will be on the mound for Lancaster against Lake Elsinore's Wynn Pelzer (3-0).
