QMJHL Weekend Preview - MAINEiacs Battle Drakkar
November 11, 2010 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs haven't had a game since last Saturday, and the time off can certainly be looked at as a reward for how they have played in the last month or so. Lewiston enters this weekend on a six-game winning streak - the team's longest since winning seven in a row during the 2007-08 season. The MAINEiacs have also won nine of their last eleven games, while posting a 12-4-0-0 record since October 1st. Last week, Lewiston knocked off Quebec once and Val-d'Or twice, bringing their overall mark to 14-7-0-2 (30 points), which is good for second place in the Telus East Division, and a tie for fifth place in the QMJHL.
This weekend's opponent is the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, who haven't exactly had the start they were looking for. After picking up their first win of the season on September 12th against Shawinigan, Baie-Comeau has been on the losing end of 21 straight contests. The Drakkar have picked up points in five of those games, leaving them with a record of 1-17-2-3 (7 points). Earlier this season, the MAINEiacs travelled to Baie-Comeau, where they picked up 3-1 and 5-2 victories over the Drakkar, who were then led by interim head coach Serge Poudrier. Mario Pouliot has since taken over behind the bench.

This Weekend in the Telus East Division
The Quebec Remparts have dropped a season-high three straight games, and the road ahead won't get much easier this weekend, as they will play three games in three nights in the Maritimes Division. The journey starts in Acadie-Bathurst on Friday, moves to PEI on Saturday, and finishes in Saint John on Sunday. All three of Quebec's opponents this weekend have records over .500.
The Victoriaville Tigres suffered their first loss in seven games on Sunday, and will be looking to avenge that with a pair of games this weekend. Victoriaville begins by hosting Moncton on Friday, before travelling to Chicoutimi for a divisional match-up on Sunday.
Fourth place in the Telus East Division will be on the line on Friday night, as the Rimouski Oceanic hold a one-point lead over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Rimouski is at home on Friday and Saturday, taking on Chicoutimi and Cape Breton.
The Chicoutimi Sagueneens haven't had the strongest start to the season, but are still within one point of Rimouski and four points of Victoriaville. Those two clubs will be Chicoutimi's opposition this weekend, as the Sagueneens will host the Oceanic on Friday, before going to Victoriaville on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL
The Drummondville Voltigeurs hold a slim two-point lead in the Telus West Division, and will be faced with three games in three days of increasing difficulty. On Friday night, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles visit the Centre Marcel Dionne. Then, on Saturday, it's a rematch of last year's semi-final round, as Moncton visits Drummondville. Finally, on Sunday, the Voltigeurs will travel to Montreal for a possible first place showdown with the Junior.
The Shawinigan Cataractes have won six of their nine games away from home this year, and will take that mark out to the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region this weekend. The Cataractes will face Rouyn-Noranda on Saturday, before battling Val-d'Or on Sunday. In preparation for Shawinigan's arrival, the Huskies and Foreurs will meet up on Friday night in Val-d'Or.
The Gatineau Olympiques will play a pair of home games this weekend. Montreal is Saturday night's opponent, before Moncton visits the Centre Robert Guertin on Sunday.
Other games this weekend will see Cape Breton at Montreal on Thursday, PEI at Halifax on Friday, and Acadie-Bathurst at Saint John on Saturday.
