October 25, 2010 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Last week, the Lewiston MAINEiacs played three games against the Telus West Division, and came away with one win. The week didn't get off to a good start, as Lewiston dropped a 6-0 decision to the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday night. Former MAINEiac Jean-Francois Plante tallied twice for the Cataractes. Then, on Friday, the MAINEiacs were on the short end of a 4-3 score in Gatineau, that saw the Olympiques win on a power play goal in the third period. Finally, the good guys got a victory on Saturday, edging out Gatineau, 2-1. Lewiston currently owns a 9-7-0-2 record (20 points), putting them two points ahead of Rimouski for second place in the Telus East Division.
Notable Performances Last Week

44-D-Olivier Dame-Malka (1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points)

Last Week in the Telus East Division
The Quebec Remparts (13-1-0-1, 27 pts) finally lost their first game in regulation, falling 6-3 in Victoriaville on Friday night. After getting their reality check, the Remparts returned to their winning ways, knocking off PEI 4-1 on Saturday, as well as beating Moncton 4-2 on Sunday.
Thanks to a win by the MAINEiacs, the Rimouski Oceanic (9-8-0-0, 18 pts) have now dropped to third place in the Telus East Division. Surprisingly, offense was the biggest issue for the Oceanic, as they were limited to just one goal in two losses. On Friday night, Rimouski lost 5-1 to Drummondville, before being blanked 5-0 by Victoriaville on Sunday.
The Victoriaville Tigres (8-9-0-1, 17 pts) entered last week on a bit of a slump, which continued with a 4-3 loss to Montreal on Thursday. However, the Tigres turned things around at the end of the week, picking up two big divisional wins against Quebec (6-3) and Rimouski (5-0).
The Chicoutimi Sagueneens (5-7-2-2, 14 pts) put a nine-game losing streak to bed on Friday night, as they capitalized 3-1 on the lowly Baie-Comeau Drakkar. However, Chicoutimi was unable to keep the positive momentum going, as the were edged out 4-3 by Moncton on Saturday.
To put it nicely, the 2010-11 season hasn't exactly gotten off to the start the Baie-Comeau Drakkar (1-13-0-2, 4 pts) were hoping for. Baie-Comeau continued their struggles last week, losing 4-3 to Moncton on Thursday, 3-1 to Chicoutimi on Friday, and 4-2 to Shawinigan on Saturday. Even though the three games were close, the fact remains the Drakkar have now been on the wrong end of 14 straight contests.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL
After a mediocre start to the season, the Shawinigan Cataractes kicked things into gear last week, picking up three big wins. Shawinigan started the week with a 6-0 win in Lewiston, before blasting PEI 8-1, and finishing off Baie-Comeau 4-2.
The Val-d'Or Foreurs made easy work of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in their regional weekend series, winning 4-2 at home on Friday, before thumping the Huskies 9-4 in Rouyn-Noranda. The Huskies have now lost six straight games and nine of their last ten.
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan got off to a slow start to the week, falling 3-2 in Halifax. However, as the week progressed, the Titan took care of their business, taking out Saint John (5-1) and Cape Breton (3-2) over the weekend.
The Montreal Junior put together a perfect week, winning all three games they played in. The Junior got one win against each division, defeating PEI 5-2, Victoriaville 4-3, and division rival Drummondville 6-3 in a match-up of the top two teams in the Telus West. Montreal now trails the Voltigeurs by one point with one game in hand.
After a win over the Titan to start the week, the Halifax Mooseheads dropped their next two tilts, falling 7-2 to Cape Breton and 5-3 to Saint John.
