NEW ORLEANS (April 9, 2012) - Late last week, intern Emily Seelig sat down with New Orleans VooDoo center Lorenzo Breland for this week's VooDoo Question and Answer. Breland is in his third year between the walls and his first with the VooDoo.
EMILY SEELIG: What would be your ultimate SportsCenter highlight?
LORENZO BRELAND: Picking up a fumble and running it in for a touchdown
ES: What was your earliest sports memory?
LB: My earliest sports memory was playing soccer when I was 5 because I was too young to play football. I scored 4 goals one time in a single game.
ES: For you to improve as a player you need to do that?
LB: Just continue to learn the game and study the opponent.
ES: What was your reaction when you found out you were joining the VooDoo?
LB: I was thrilled because I'm close to home so I'll be able to play in front of my family and friends.
ES: What grade would you give yourself for last season and why?
LB: A- because there's always room for improvement.
ES: What is your favorite style of music?
LB: I'm very diverse so a little bit of everything from hip-hop, pop, punk, rock, classical--you name it, I listen to it all.
ES: What is your favorite song of all time?
LB: "Ribbon in the Sky" by Stevie Wonder.
ES: Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera and why?
LB: Neither. I pick J. Lo
ES: Growing up, who you favorite ninja turtle was and why?
LB: Master Splinter because he kept everything together and showed everyone else what to do. He was a teacher and a master.
ES: What was your greatest moment outside of sports?
LB: Graduating from college with Cum Laude from Jackson State.
ES: What is your biggest fear?
LB: The dark; SERIOUSLY, the dark.
ES: IPhone, Droid or Blackberry?
LB: Droid, but I do own a Mac and an Ipad.
ES: What is one thing you'd most like to change about the world?
LB: To end world hunger.
ES: What do you like to do on your off days?
LB: Relax, play golf and listen to music.
ES: In the offseason, your occupation is?
LB: A history teacher.
ES: If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Why?
LB: I would want to be invisible.
ES: What is the most interesting thing about you?
LB: I'm an open book; you just have to turn the pages.
ES: What is the biggest obstacle you ever had to overcome in your life?
LB: Learning a new language when I was in Brazil this summer. Having to overcome the language barrier was tough for me.
ES: What is your biggest life changing or life altering moment?
LB: When I went to Brazil and played and coached there. My team won the second-ever Brazil Bowl this past fall, which really changed my life.
ES: Do you/have you had any pets? What kinds and what are/ were their names?
LB: I'm actually a dog breeder and have 4 dogs. They're all Doberman pinchers. Their names are Lucky, Lady, Leo and Lila.
ES: What would your ideal first date be and why?
LB: It'd be simple and sweet. Just a nice dinner where I would cook and then we'd go catch a move and take a walk on the riverwalk.
ES: Do you have a favorite quote or saying?
LB: "The early bird gets the worm but the second rat gets the cheese."
ES: Sky diving or bungee jumping and why?
LB: Sky diving because I'd be too scared the bungee cord might break.
ES: Top-five on your bucket list?
LB: I have 4 because Brazil was on my bucket list: I want to go to China, London, Africa, and just want to hold a gold bar and take a picture with it.
ES: Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
LB: I want to be be a GM of a professional team or an athletics director of high school, married and have children and hopefully be ready to retire.
