Mason City (IA) In these parts, purple is associated with the Minnesota Vikings, but the North Iowa Outlaws and the North Iowa Chapter of the American Cancer Society are hoping to stimulate another thought with that color later this month.

The Outlaws and the American Cancer Society are proud to announce "Put Cancer on Ice" weekend scheduled for January 30-31 at the North Iowa Ice Arena when the Outlaws take on the Springfield Jr. Blues. A weekend full of events dedicated to raising awareness, and money, in the fight against cancer will feature the Outlaws' playing with special PURPLE COLORED sticks during the Friday Jan. 30th game, with fan's being able to take home their favorite player's ax during a special live auction after the game.

Proceeds from the auction will go towards cancer research.

"Purple is the official color used by the American Cancer Society to promote cancer research which is why we decided upon that color" said Outlaws Director of Communication Scott Montesano. "Seeing the purple sticks on the ice, when most are either black or blue or just wood colored will stand out and get people to think in the stands and ask questions."

On Saturday Jan. 31st, American Cancer Society representatives will be selling baked goods inside the lobby and proceeds from that night's Chuck-a-Puck promotion will also go towards cancer research.

The Central Division leading Outlaws return to the ice this Saturday night with a 8pm game at Owatonna.

The North Iowa Outlaws Hockey Club is in its fourth season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 33nd year of operation. For more information, visit northiowaoutlaws.com or call (641) 424-5468.
