Pumpin' Up the Volume in the 'Sound Van'

September 1, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Strong Island Sound News Release

Patchogue, NY- Long Islanders should be on the lookout on the highways and bi-ways for the 'Sound Van.' Coming to a neighborhood near you will be the official vehicle of your home town team, the Strong Island Sound.

One quick glance is all it will take to know that we are near. Dressed in the team's and ABA league colors, this classy vehicle will be all over Nassau and Suffolk counties to let everyone out there know that we are here for your entertainment. Even your favorite ice cream truck doesn't spin around town with pictures of a big yellow chicken on his ride!

"The Sound Van is going to be used as a promotional vehicle for our team, much like radio stations do," said Sound co-owner Darren Cioffi. "It will be at all community events that we attend."

Of course, as much as Shayken Bayke may want to get behind the wheel, he will have to enjoy the ride from the passenger seat.

"He's still waiting to get his driver's license," Sound Director of Media Relations Joe Pietaro said. "Just to be safe, we took the keys away from him when we did the photo shoot."

Have you already seen us driving down your street? Or do you want us to pass by and give you a wave 'hello?' Drop us an email at jpietaro@strongislandsound.com and we'll be there!

For more information and season ticket plans, please visit www.strongislandsound.com. Our home opener is on Sunday November 11 at 7:15 p.m. versus Delaware.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
