Pump Jacks Well-Represented in Omaha
June 14, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release
East Texas Pump Jack fans will have to wait at least another week for the arrival of the three players they expect from Oregon State... but for good reason. The No. 3-seeded Beavers advanced to the College World Series in Omaha, where they will be one of eight teams battling for the national championship.
If they want to get a crash course in what it takes to be a Pump Jack, all they have to do is look to their first opponent.
Carlos Rodriguez, Nate Esposito, and Beau Day are all in Omaha now as the Beavers prepare to begin the College World Series on Saturday. Oregon State will play in the opening game of this year's event against Mississippi State, a team that features two former Pump Jacks, Jacob Lindgren and Brett Pirtle.
New Pump Jack Jacob Kelzer's Indiana University teammates are also at the College World Series, but Kelzer is already in East Texas to get a jump on the summer season. The Hoosiers are the first Big Ten school to reach the series since 1984.
This is the first time East Texas has been this well represented in Omaha.
The Beavers reached the College World Series by capturing an epic Super Regional series against Kansas State, a team with Pump Jacks flavor of its own. Blair DeBord, Gerardo Esquivel, and R.J. Santigate, all former Pump Jacks, were all regular contributors for a Wildcat squad that captured the Big 12 title.
The College World Series begins on Saturday when Oregon State faces Mississippi State in the opener at 2 p.m. The game will be followed by Louisville against Indiana. The winners of those two games will face off Monday at 7 p.m., while the two losers will try to avoid elimination earlier Monday at 2 p.m.
The Pump Jacks welcome the Texas Marshals to town for the weekend series starting this Saturday night. Saturday will be the first giveaway of the season at historic Driller Park, where the Pump Jacks will be giving away free soft-core logo baseballs featuring the mark of the 2013 TCL All-Star Game. The first 100 fans in the gate will receive a free baseball.
Sunday is the first Pump Jacks Sunday Fun Day of the season, presented by theGOspot.com. Join the fiesta at the ballpark, featuring $2.50 chips and salsa and $2.50 frozen margaritas and Bud Light Lime Straw-ber-ritas. For the kids, the Pump Jacks will have face painting available, as well as special on-field contest. This marks the first of five Sunday Fun Day promotions, each one presented by theGOspot.com.
Since this Sunday is Father's Day, why not spend the evening celebrating dad at Driller Park with the Pump Jacks. Families will get a free upgrade from grandstand to upper box seats, so dad can enjoy the game in style. He can pick up a "dad-sized" meal from the concessions stand for a low price, too. Dads even have the chance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch... either to a Pump Jacks player or his own son!
Tickets are available in advance online, by phone, or at the Pump Jacks office at 106 North Kilgore Street, #201 in downtown Kilgore. Tickets are also available at Driller Park's ticket office the night of each game.
