Pump Jacks Walk Way to 13-6 Win

East Texas PumpJacks News Release

You get a walk! And you get a walk! Everyone gets walks!

The Pump Jacks collected 12 hits and 14 walks on their way to a 13-3 win against the Woodlands Strykers on Thursday. The East Texas pitching staff did well to limit the Woodlands' run total despite issuing 11 walks of its own.

Every member of the Jacks lineup picked up a hit and seven Pump Jacks walked, six of them more than once.

East Texas benefitted from just one extra-base hit, an emphatic one in the top of the first inning. After a walk to Weston Pitts, Jake Nash put the Pump Jacks on the board with a two-run homer on the first pitch he saw to give the Jacks a 2-0 lead.

Jacks' starter Mike Crimi gave the Strykers back a run on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning, then recovered by sending them down in order in the second.

The Pump Jacks extended their lead to 6-1 in the third when they sent 10 batters to the plate as part of a four-run rally.

Pitts stroked a one-out single into center field, and Nash and Dylan Mecham followed with back-to-back walks that loaded the bases. Alex Bell came to the plate one out later, and the second pitch he saw from starting pitcher Dillon Turney was wild to the backstop.

The wild pitch cleared the way for Pitts to score, and a sloppy toss from the catcher to Turney covering the plate allowed Nash to come home as well.

After Bell walked, James Lear hit a sharp grounder that was mishandled by the shortstop. His throw to first skipped into the East Texas dugout, Mecham raced home, and the Jacks had reloaded the bases.

Turney's fifth walk of the inning put Tristan Clarke on first and pushed Bell across the plate, giving East Texas a 6-1 advantage.

Crimi walked three in the bottom of the third, but he escaped unscathed. He wasn't as lucky in the fourth, when the Strykers scored twice to cut the score to 6-3. With runners at second and third, The Woodlands put on a hit and run, but batter Vicente Villarreal swung through the pitch. When catcher Tyler Moore couldn't handle the pitch cleanly, William Fox was able to register the steal of home for the first run of the inning.

An RBI single plated the second run of the inning, but two strikeouts by Crimi ended the threat.

Both sides went scoreless in the fifth before the Jacks broke the game wide open in the sixth. A six-run rally doubled their run total and gave them a commanding 12-3 lead.

Clarke singled up the middle to lead things off, and moved to second on an Anthony Donovan grounder. Pitts and Nash worked back-to-back walks, and the bases were loaded for Mecham.

Mecham jumped in the first pitch and shot it into left-center field for a single, and Clarke and Pitts came around to score. Bell drew a walk to reload the bases, and after Lear was put out, Owens and Clarke drew consecutive bases-loaded walks to score two more. A wild pitch to Donovan brought in Bell for the final run of the rally, and Donovan grounded out to end the inning.

The Pump Jacks put a cap on their offensive outburst with a final run in the eighth when Nash singled in Clarke for his third RBI of the night.

Hunter Owens took over for Crimi to start the eighth and retired the side in order before the Strykers posted three runs in the ninth.

Nash finished 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, three runs scored, and a pair of walks. Mecham and Clarke added two RBI each, and Pitts scored three times on three walks and a hit.

Crimi allowed only three earned runs and struck out six in seven complete innings, despite walking nine hitters.
