East Texas PumpJacks News Release
For the second time in as many nights, the East Texas Pump Jacks fell victim to a tough break which resulted in a loss. On Saturday night in Acadiana, the Pump Jacks rally fell just short as they dropped a heartbreaking loss to the Cane Cutters 5-4.
The Jacks got on the board first, knocking two runs in the top of the third. Matthew Dickey led of the inning with a single and then stole second. Back-to-back walks to Brooks and Ty Marlow loaded the bases for J.J. Robinson. The Pump Jack catcher hit a deep fly to right to sacrifice the first run home. Then a wild pitch plated another, giving East Texas a 2-0 lead.
The lead was short lived as the Cane Cutters responded adding two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to even the game up. A single, and error put two runners on base. Then, a two-out double from Mitchell Nau drove plated both runners on base.
The Pump Jacks answered back and regained the lead in the top of the fifth. Wes Edrington belted a single, and Dickey followed with a single of his own. Then the Jacks initiated a double steal to put both runners in scoring position and roll the lineup to the top of the order. Ty Marlow grounded out but earned an RBI, driving Edringotn home from third. Brooks Marlow then hit the third single of the inning to bring home the final run and give the Jacks a two-run advantage, 4-2.
However, Acadiana closed the gap in the next frame, scoring on a pass ball to move the score to 4-3.
Pump Jacks pitching got into a bit of trouble in the seventh as the Cane Cutters loaded the bases with only one out. Two runs walked home to give Acadiana the lead.
After succumbing to two quick outs, the Pump Jacks rallied to threaten in the ninth. Robinson kept East Texas in the game with a beautiful single into the gap in left. Reigning Warstick TCL Player of the Week Garrett McMullen kept the rally going with his third hit of the night, a double to advance both runners into scoring position. However, those runners were left stranded on base due to a bad break strikeout call to Joey Armstrong that the Pump Jacks coaching staff did not agree with.
East Texas will conclude the two game series against Acadiana Sunday night as they look to even the score. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
