Pump Jacks Drop Series in Lafayette

After sweeping Acadina less than a week ago at Driller Park, the East Texas Pump Jacks were unable to capitalize on the road, as they fell to the Cane Cutters by a score of 4-1 in the final game of the two -game series. The Jacks and Cutters were scoreless through six innings, but five errors, and seven runners stranded on base proved to be the downfall for the Pump Jacks.

Kyle Cedotal in his second start of the season for the Cutters against the Pump Jacks was able to keep the East Texas bats quiet allowing only two hits through six innings.

The Bright spot for the Pump Jacks was starting pitcher Jordan Johnson. In his first start of the year, Johnson carried the Jacks through five scoreless innings while only allowing two hits and striking out five batters. Johnson was able to work his way out of multiple jams early in the game and strand a total of four runners on base.

Brooks Marlow went 1-for-4 on the night, but that one hit continued his hitting streak (9), making him the only player in the league to register a hit in every game he has played. Brooks is currently second in the TCL with 16 hits, just two behind his first place teammate Garrett McMullen.

Ty Marlow earned the RBI tonight in the top of the seventh, driving home the only Pump Jacks run in the game. With two outs, Michael Hymes singled to right and then moved to second on a walk to Connor Bitzer. Matthew Dickey kept the inning going with a line drive single to load the bases. At the top of the order, Ty Marlow then knocked an infield single to bring home Hymes, and tie the game at one.

Only a half an inning earlier, in the bottom of the sixth, Acadiana broke up the scoreless game. With the bases loaded the Pump Jacks issued a walk to bring across the run. The Cane Cutters added another run in the seventh, and then two more in the eighth to take the game 4-1 over the Jacks.

The Pump Jacks have the day off Monday, but return to action Tuesday night as they play host to the first place Brazos Valley Bombers at Driller Park Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The homestand wraps up on Wednesday, and then the boys hit the road to head back to Acadiana for another two game series.
