Pump Jacks Hold on for 3-2 Win over Generals

The East Texas Pump Jacks collected their fourth win in a row, edging out the Victoria Generals for a 3-2 win on Tuesday night.

The East Texas Pump Jacks return to Driller proved to be a successful one, as the Jacks defeated the second place Victoria Generals 3-2 to pick up their fourth win in a row.

Behind a stellar pitching effort fromJordan PriceandJ.J. Franklinand timely hitting, the Pump Jacks momentum followed them home as the offense recorded seven hits and was able to overcome four errors.

The Pump Jacks wasted no time getting on the board, adding a run in both the first and second innings.Matthew Dickeyopened the frame working an eight-pitch walk. He then swiped second for his 14th stolen base on the season. Dickey found himself at third after a wild pitch, and then crossed home on a ground out fromMitch Meyerto give the Jacks a 1-0 advantage. In the second, with two outs,Zach Joneskept the Pump Jacks alive with a single.Brett McAfeewalked and Dickey contributed yet again with a single to right to plate Jones and give the Jacks a 2-0 lead.

Jacks starting pitcher, Price was able to strand Generals runners in scoring position in the first three innings, but the Generals finally got a run across in the top of the fourth. With a runner on third and two outs, Drew Featherston laced a single into right, cutting the Jacks lead in half 2-1.

Victoria added another run in the sixth thanks to two Pump Jack errors. After a leadoff single to Hayden Vesely, Frank Cloutier laid down a sacrifice bunt but a throwing error byJ.J. Robinsonpulled Jones off the bag, putting runners on first and second. Vesely crossed home on yet another throwing error, this time as the Pump Jacks tried to turn two, but McAfee's throw bounced past Jones, scoring Vesely who had advanced to third on the play.

The Pump Jacks battled back in the seventh to add another run, regaining the lead and giving them the winning margin.Brooks Marlowopened the frame with a beautiful double down the line in right. He advanced to third on a single off the bat of the reigning Warstic TCL Player of the Week Mitch Meyer. With runners on the corners,Joey Armstrongdrove home the final RBI on a ground out, pushing the Jacks to a 3-2 lead.

The Generals threatened to even the game in the eighth but the power of Franklin's arm was too much. After allowing a leadoff double to deep center, Franklin battled back to induce a groundout and then a huge strikeout to end the inning and the threat.

Franklin went on to close out the game for the Jacks and retired all three batters in order in the ninth. Franklin earned the win pitching 2.2 innings, while allowing one hit and striking out five. Franklin came in to relieve Price who had another solid start for the Pump Jacks. Price was given the no-decision after carrying the Jacks through 6.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out four.

The Pump Jacks will go for their fifth straight win in the final game of the homestand as the first half of the season wraps up Wednesday night against the Victoria Generals.

After opening the second half with a four-game road trip, all eyes in the TCL will focus on East Texas for the2013 TCL All-Star Game. Future major leaguers will descend on historic Driller Park for the first TCL All-Star Game hosted by the Pump Jacks. Pregame festivities include a home run derby, with representatives from each of the six teams, and much more.
