East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The East Texas Pump Jacks return to the friendly confines of Historic Driller Park for a four-game weekend homestand to right the ship after a disappointing trip to Victoria that concluded with a 9-3 loss to the Generals Wednesday evening.
After falling behind early in the opener, the Pump Jacks got on the board first Wednesday, posting three runs in the third. Drew McLaughlin led off with a single, then Reynaldo Echenique's grounder to the pitcher was mishandled, putting runners at the corners with no outs. James Lear singled to load the bases for Matthew Dickey. Dickey met the challenge with a single that drove in both McLaughlin and Echenique. Connor Hornsby lofted a sacrifice fly that scored Lear and gave the Jacks a 3-0 lead.
The Generals answered quickly in the home half of the third inning. Victoria picked up two singles, two walks, and another single before Ray Messner was able to record an out, tying the score at 3-3. The home team tacked on two more runs before the inning was over, taking a 5-3 lead at the end of three.
Victoria extended the lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning, and added three insurance runs in the eighth for the final margin of victory.
East Texas threatened in the top of the ninth, beginning with a leadoff single from Joe Moroney. McLaughlin reached on an error, putting runners on first and second. Before the Jacks could muster a run, however, the Generals coaxed a game-ending double play grounder to short.
The Jacks return to East Texas for a four-game homestand beginning Thursday against the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The opener marks the return of Thirsty Thursday, when fans can beat the heat with 50-cent soft drinks and draft beers for just one dollar.
Friday will be the first Fireworks Friday of the season, presented by Patterson Kilgore and CBS 19. The Jacks will light up the night sky with a postgame fireworks extravaganza with a new soundtrack befitting the Friday the 13th date.
Saturday will be Pump Jacks Mist-N-Sip Giveaway Night, presented by GymBox Fitness and KLTV. This unique and useful water bottle has not only a spout to drink from, but a trigger to spray a fine, cooling mist. With your Mist-N-Sip courtesy of GymBox Fitness and KLTV, you can keep cool all summer with a drink and spritz!
