Pump Jacks Fall on the Road to Acadiana
June 15, 2012 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The Pump Jacks fell behind early against the Cane Cutters, but after tying the game in the fourth and the fifth innings, Acadiana took the lead for good and thwarted each comeback attempt as the Jacks fell 10-7 in Lafayette, La.
After the Cane Cutters plated two early runs against Pump Jacks starter Braden Strickland, the Jacks were able to tie the game in the fourth inning. After Kevin O'Leary singled and Whitt Dorsey walked, consecutive singles by Tyler Girouard and R.J. Santigate brought home the first East Texas run, driven in by Santigate. Taylor Murphy then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 2-2.
After the Cane Cutters took the lead back on an unearned run in the bottom of the frame, the Pump Jacks were able to tie the game again after Tyler Sullivan led off the fifth with a single, followed by a sacrifice bunt from O'Leary and a single by Dorsey. With runners on the corners, Girouard hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Sullivan and tying the game at 3-3.
But Acadiana took the lead back for good in the bottom of the fifth, as a leadoff walk to Adam Seal and a sacrifice bunt chased Strickland from the game. Alex Marse then walked, followed by a two-run single by Gabe Woods off Cameron Gann, making the score 5-3 in favor of Acadiana.
The Pump Jacks were able to pull within one run in the sixth after they loaded the bases with no one out on walks by Murphy and Charlie Wagner and a bunt single by Nathan Zavos. Logan Davis then singled to drive in Murphy with East Texas' fourth run. But the Cane Cutters pulled ahead even further in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three more runs to make the score 8-4 in favor of the home team.
The resilient Pump Jacks attempted another comeback in the seventh, responding with three runs of their own as Santigate singled and Murphy reached on an error by the right fielder. After a flyout, a walk to Louie Helmburg on four pitches loaded the bases for Davis. Following a wild pitch that scored a run and moved Murphy and Helburg to second and third, respectively, Davis ripped a two-run single into the outfield to plate both and pull East Texas within one again, 8-7.
But Acadiana once again responded with two more runs in the bottom of the frame for the final margin. Strickland was saddled with the loss for East Texas, while his opposition on the mound, Kaleb Manuel, got the win for Acadiana.
A couple bright spots for East Texas were the play of Santigate and Davis at the plate. Santigate went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Davis went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and three RBI. Murphy also had a strong game with two runs scored and an RBI for the Pump Jacks, who fell to 8-3 with the loss.
The Pump Jacks come back home to Driller Park after going 1-2 on their three-game road trip to face the same Acadiana Cane Cutters. Fans in attendance will receive a foam bat courtesy of Longview Kilgore Cable TV.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
