East Texas PumpJacks News Release
In a tightly contested game the Pump Jacks rallied to score four runs in the final two innings to send the game into extras. However East Texas could not finish the rally as they fell to the Woodlands Strykers 5-4 in ten.
The East Texas Pump Jacks vowed to not go quietly, rallying to score four in the eighth and ninth innings and sending the game into extras, but the rally fell just short as the Woodlands Strykers came out on top 5-4 in ten innings.
The game started out quiet for the Pump Jacks. After only acquiring one hit through the first six innings, the Pump Jacks bats woke up in the eighth to record four singles and tally three runs to creep back into the ball game. Brooks Marlow opened up the inning, hooking a single to right. Mark Mathias followed with a single of his own which was well placed right over the head of the first basemen to put runners on the corners. J.J. Robinson knocked a broken bat flair into right to drive home Brooks Marlow from third, and give the Pump Jacks their first run of the game. The hitting continued as Matthew Dickey chipped in another single to bring home another run and cut the lead in half, 4-2. The final run of the inning crossed home on a ground out from Bret Bitow.
The Jacks completed their come back rally in the ninth inning. Mitch Meyer once again lead off with a chance to tie and this time worked a walk. A beautiful bunt down the first base line turned into an infield single off the bat of Connor Huesers putting runners on first and second. With Brooks Marlow at the plate, the Pump Jacks botched a call, which resulted in Myer being thrown out at third for the first out of the inning. Brooks Marlow singled, and then Mathias blooped an infield single between the diving pitcher and second basemen to drive home a run and tie the game at four. The Pump Jacks rally fell short as they had the bases loaded with two outs, but were unable to drive in the winning run.
The Strykers wasted no time breaking the tie in extas. With a runner on third, the Woodlands knocked a two-out single to right to retake the lead 5-4.
The Pump Jacks once again got the lead off runner on thanks to a single from Bitow to open the frame. However he was quickly erased on a controversial call, which resulted in a ground out double play. The call halted the momentum of the Jacks as the rally fell short handing the Strykers the 5-4 win in ten innings.
Early in the game, the Strykers drew first blood first in the top of the first inning. After two quick outs, Nick Rossetta walked a batter and allowed back-to-back singles giving the Strykers a 1-0 lead.
After allowing a run in the first, Rossetta settled down to pitch five shutout innings before getting into trouble in the seventh as the Stykers tallied three runs to momentarily pull away from the Pump Jacks.
Rossetta's night was done after seven innings in which he allowed four runs on nine hits while issuing four walks and collecting a strikeout. Don Sullivan relieved Rossetta and pitched 1.2 innings allowing only one hit and striking out a batter. Dillon Moritz entered the game in the ninth with two outs and a runner on first and induced a ground out to end the inning. He was tagged with the loss however after issuing the go ahead run in the tenth.
The Pump Jacks wrap up the short homestand Friday night with game two against the Woodlands Strykers in Friday night for the return of Fireworks Friday, presented by CBS 19. After the game, the Jacks will light up the night sky with the best fireworks show in East Texas.
