WESTPORT, CONN. and Westford, Mass. (Tuesday, October 10, 2006) - PUMA® North America and the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) jointly announced on Tuesday a four-year, multi-faceted partnership which makes the sportlifestyle brand the official ball supplier of the preeminent professional indoor soccer league in North America. As a global leader in soccer technology and design, PUMA will launch the v.106 MISL Match Ball, the most technically advanced indoor ball on the global market that delivers more speed, the truest flight, best rebound and improved control. Specially designed for indoor play, PUMA added an internal layer to the v1.06 Match Ball, allowing for 20% less bounce than its traditional outdoor counterpart.
"The MISL is a dynamic, up and coming organization bringing a new excitement to the indoor game and the league serves as a great platform for PUMA to launch our new v1.06 MISL Match Ball," said John Stevenson, Vice President and General Manager of Performance Sports for PUMA North America. "By partnering with the MISL, PUMA will expand our reach within the soccer community and reinforce our strong soccer heritage."
As part of PUMA's four-year partnership with the MISL, PUMA will not only become the exclusive MISL Match Play Ball for the MISL and all of its MISL member clubs, but also will produce the MISL Replica Ball, Mini Ball and supply the Official MISL Camp Ball in support of the league's grass roots efforts, all with customized graphic designs. Additionally, PUMA will assume the exclusive title sponsorship of the annual MISL Scoring Champion Award and will receive brand exposure within all MISL print publications, the League's official web site and during all games via arena boards, scoreboard & jumbo-tron advertising, PA announcements and TV spots during local television broadcasts. PUMA will also hold the rights to the League's team badges, allowing for the creation of replica influenced product in the coming seasons.
"PUMA is not only an exceptional brand, but it is a prominent and significant player on the international soccer stage," stated MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan. "It is a true testament to the vitality of the MISL as a soccer brand to have the opportunity to partner with John Stevenson and his team as they develop and bring to market a world-class, custom-designed match play ball, replica ball, and mini ball. I look forward to a long and successful relationship with PUMA as we grow and expand our joint initiatives."
The MISL represents the major league of professional indoor soccer, featuring the finest indoor soccer players from 32 countries around the world. The 2006-07 MISL season features six teams, including the Baltimore Blast, California Cougars, Chicago Storm, Milwaukee Wave, Philadelphia KiXX, and the expansion Detroit Ignition.
