Pulaski Mariners News Release
PulaskiâOn a rainy Saturday night, Pulaski defeated Princeton 8-4 at Historic Calfee Park, improving their record to 14-6.
In Pulaski's half of the first inning, after a walk and a single, centerfielder Junior Chourio hit a double into left center, scoring third baseman Greg Powers. With men on second and third, catcher Charles Anderson hit a towering homerun over the right field wallâhis first of two homers on the night. Anderson had a spectacular night, going 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in four.
Four runs in the hole, Princeton scored a run of their own in the top of the second off a sacrifice fly by catcher Tommy Lagreid.
The Blue Jays struck again in the fifth when Luke Hetheringtonâ1-for-3 on the nightâsingled, driving in Emmanuel Sena from second.
Both teams scored in the sixth. Princeton's left fielder Chris Cunningham put up the Ray's one run of the inning, hitting a solo homerun over right center. In their half of the sixth, Pulaski knocked out two solo homeruns, one by Charles Anderson, and the second off the bat of right fielder Jon Ashford. Ashford ended the night 1-for-3, scoring once and driving in twoâhis second RBI coming off a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
In the seventh inning, Ryan Royster singled and was later scored when an error and two walks allowed him to stroll home. Despite sloppy defense and control issues on the mound, Pulaski squashed the late-game rally, throwing away only one run.
With the game on the line, Princeton shortstop Jaria Delarosaâ2-for-4 on the nightâhit a leadoff homerun over the centerfield wall. The effort was not enough however as Pulaski squashed the short-lived rally to end the game.
Pulaski starting pitcher Chi-Hung Cheng (2-0) picked up the win, allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out six in his five innings of work. Princeton pitcher Wade Davis (1-2) struck out eight batters but took the loss, allowing seven of Pulaski's eight runs in the five and two thirds innings he pitched.
Pulaski plays the final game of the two game series against Princeton Sunday night.
