Pulaski notches 11th victory

Pulaski, VA- Pulaski notched their 11th victory on the year tonight as they defeated Bluefield 5-4 courtesy of yet another pinch-hit single from Felipe Burin.
Mariner's starter, Rigoberto Garcia, was rather impressive in his Thursday night start at Calfee. Garcia had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning until Bluefield's third baseman, Matt Dean, snuck a ground ball slightly past the diving efforts of M's second baseman Martin Peguero. Garcia was replaced by RHP Isliexel Gonzalez after throwing 5 1/3 innings, giving up 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, and sitting down four Bluefield batters.
Dario Pizzano tallied his second homerun of the season when he smashed a solo shot over the center field fence in the sixth giving Pulaski the lead 3-1. Nonetheless, the Blue Jays were able to tie it up during the top of the eighth by scoring two runs on a walk, ground rule double, wild pitch, and a crucial two out error by Peguero.
Neither team managed to get another run across the board in regulation. Yet, it was Bluefield that was first to strike in extras. Blue Jay's catcher, Santiago Nessy, got the job done as he hit a one out, sac fly to center that scored Matt Dean despite the fact that the M's were able to catch Dwight Smith Jr. trying to advance to third for the last out of the inning.
Blue Jays relief pitcher Will Browning made his debut in the bottom of the tenth by walking Reggie Lawson on four straight pitches. Next batter Dario Pizzano hit a hard-hit ground ball that Bluefield's second baseman, Jorge Vega-Rosado, was able to knock down with a valiant diving effort and flip to SS Christian Lopes. Unfortunately for Bluefield, Lopes was unable to secure the ball as field umpire Morgan Day called Lawson safe. After a brief stoppage of the game due to Blue Jay Manger Dennis Holmberg arguing the call, Tyler Marlette laid down a sac bunt only to have Bluefield spoil his efforts as they got the lead runner out at third. Following the botched bunt play, Jordy Lara got a free pass after getting hit in the arm by a fastball giving the M's a one out, bases loaded opportunity. However, Will Browning managed to strike out Martin Peguero bringing the Blue Jays one out away from a win.
Felipe Burin had something different planned for Browning, as he perfectly placed a 2 RBI bloop-single behind second base, propelling the Mariners to their 11th win and back to a .500 record.
Pulaski takes on Bluefield again tomorrow, 7 p.m., at Calfee Park for the last game of their three game series.
