Prospect Profile: Seitz Set on the Oil Kings

Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Last spring was an excitingÃÂ time for Dawson Seitz and his family as on April 20 he had his name called by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the first round of the WHL Draft.
Seitz, a Medicine Hat product, was coming off a whirlwind season that saw the young forward score at a goal-per-game pace but limited to just seven regular-season games with the SEAC Tigers U15 AAA team due to injury.
Despite the finite amount of viewing, the Oil Kings knew they were getting a quality player with the 20th-overall selection.
'We'd seen him the year before, we knew he was skilled and could really skate," said Oil Kings Director of Scouting Jamie Porter. "The next year when he came back he had grown, now there is more size there and the skills were more polished. We were able to see him before and after he was hurt and although it was a small sample size we were comfortable with what we had seen of him."
Seitz, looking to make up for lost time this season, was never given that opportunity due to the COVID-19 pandemic restricting him and his Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep team to just three games so far this season
"Because he was playing at a program nearby, the hope had been we could bring him in for practices and be around the team a bit more, but due to the pandemic we aren't able to do that," said Porter. "But we like that he's close, playing at a program that we're comfortable and familiar with and has had some great success at developing WHL players."
WhenÃÂ the 16-year-old is able to return to the ice he'll be looking to continue his goal-scoring prowess that saw himÃÂ tally 60 goals in 41 games in his final year of U13 before movingÃÂ on toÃÂ his first full year of U15 hockey where tallied 23 goals in 33 games.
"His vision, his hockey sense, he's going to be an offensive player at some point," said PorterÃÂ of Seitz's skillset. "Scorers will score, he creates offence in multiple ways, so even if he doesn't put the puck in the net right away, he's going to generate offence in other ways."
