Washington Kastles News Release
After claiming the Battle of the Kastles I title in 2013, Washington captain Leander Paes is again the man to beat in our second-annual fantasy tennis tournament.
Paes won six of eight first-round match-ups in Battle of the Kastles II, which features 16 Kastles doubles teams from the franchise's first seven seasons competing for your votes.
Paes advanced to the quarterfinals with current Kastles Martina Hingis, Venus Williams and Anastasia Rodionova, as well as former D.C. greats Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs and Bobby Reynolds.
Hingis proved to be the only match for Paes in Round 1. She teamed with Venus to defeat Paes and 2010 Kastle Victoria Azarenka 36-15, then partnered Rodionova to a 29-6 win over Paes and Kastles original player Scott Oudsema.
Autographed prizes are being awarded to Kastles fans who vote on the team's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with season ticket holder Tucker Tremblay having already won twice. New-match voting begins each weekday at 11 am, and fans are encouraged to enter three times by making their picks once on each social media site.
A full list of the remaining giveaways can be found below, but we'll go ahead and show you what's at stake today: a Kastles shirt autographed by the first team to finish 16-0 in World TeamTennis history. Paes, Reynolds, Stubbs, Arina Rodionova and Murphy Jensen signed this collector's item before attaining perfection in 2011.
The history-making 2011 Washington Kastles signed the shirt that's being given away today!

Venus & Serena Williams Usher in New Era at SETLC
Williams Arena Highlights $18 Million in Renovations
Kastles superstar Venus Williams and original Kastle Serena Williams returned to D.C. on Nov. 7 for the Grand Re-Opening and Renovation Celebration of the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
SETLC supporters since the center's opening in 2001, the Williams sisters assisted founder Cora Masters Barry and Mayor Vincent Gray by cutting a ceremonial red ribbon before the event.
Gray was influential in the $18 million used for renovations to the center, which has touched the lives of more than 10,000 children through tennis instruction, tutoring and life-skills training.
The highlight of the renovations is the 48,000-square-foot Williams Arena, named after the legendary sisters and home to six state-of-the-art indoor courts. George Washington University matches and USTA tournaments are already planned for Williams Arena.
On this night, however, Williams Arena was transformed into an extravagant ballroom, where tennis balls hovered over dinner tables and appeared to bounce off racquets hanging from the ceiling.
NFL Today host James Brown emceed the program, which honored Venus, Serena and five members of the SETLC community. Kastles owner Mark Ein presented Reggie Van Lee with the evening's Humanitarian Award.
Rubbing shoulders with the stars, SETLC students stole the show. Rising junior player Taylor "Woodie" McKnight held his own as Brown's co-host, while Kastles ballkids Camra Long, Tierra Holloway, Rhajzon Rankins and Chris Brown shined as speakers and presenters.
The Kastles made a pair of auction donations that combined to raise $1,600 for SETLC students and programs.
